My Passion for Drawing

Art is the only way to run away without leaving home. ~Twyla Tharp

Each summer, I spend a great deal of time drawing.  I rarely have time to just chill out and draw during the school year.  The pressures and workload of teaching are just too much.  This summer I really stepped things up.  First, I started a 30 Day Art/Drawing Challenge on Facebook.  I wanted to challenge myself to draw as well as address the artists block that I was having.

Day 1 - Self-Portrait

This seems to have opened the floodgates.

I've dusted off my DeviantArt page and started posting my new drawing there.  I feel like I have found a home there.  I'm really enjoying viewing the art of others and getting feedback from fellow artists.  The talent out there is phenomenal.

I've been averaging 2-3 drawing per day for the last week.
I'm going to be sad when school starts up again and I won't have time like I do now.

I know I need more practice, but I am very proud of the drawings I've created.
Here is a sample......

I do best when I'm drawing the things I love.....

Twilight
Bella and Edward Cullen

Outlander
Claire and Jamie Fraser

Fifty Shades of Grey
Christian Grey

My Kids.....

Jake

 Lauren

Matt

Please check out my DeviantArt gallery for more.....

As the new school year looms in my near future, I am making it a goal to spend some time working on drawing as a way to relax and decompress.

Why I Love My Kindle

1. It's portable.
Gone are they days of reading cumbersome books!  My Kindle is so light, and easy to hold.  I love Kindle so much, that I'm buying books for my Kindle that actually already own in print version, simply because I don't want to hold the book.

2. It holds an amazing number of books!
I'm up to 400 books/stories and I'm not even close to running out of room.

3. I can read my Twi-Porn...*cough cough*...I mean Twilight Fan Fiction on my Kindle.
Thanks to some great apps out there, I can easily load my favorite FF stories onto my Kindle and not have to read them on the computer.

4. Books are so much cheaper for Kindle
99 cents....yeah, I think I can afford 99 cents.

5. It's private

Alien Cupcakes

Just finished making cupcakes for my son's 8th birthday party
which will at Space Golf in Orland.
So going with the space theme, I made alien cupcakes.
They are actually the aliens from Toy Story.
The eyeballs are Mentos and the ears and antennae are sour apple straw bits cut up.

Davy Jones/Monkees Tribute

We are a little sad in my house today
with the passing of Davy Jones.
My youngest son Matt absolutely adores the Monkees!  For the last two months, all he does is eat, sleep and breathe Monkees!
And draw.  My son LOVES to draw.
He draws what he loves.
So in honor of Davy Jones,
here are some drawing Matthew did last week.

Hey Bulldog!

Jake and Matt playing one of my favorite Beatle songs...."Hey Bulldog!"
You should probably click to watch it on YouTube so you don't have
"I Want to Tell You" playing at the same time. :)

For my further Beatles enjoyment, here's the real thing.

"Footloose" Advance Screening

I was fortunate enough to see an advance screening of the new Footloose at the Hollywood Palms last night because my awesome and lucky sister Barb won tickets!

Barb and Me!
My nieces, Robyn and Layla.
80's fashions were in last night!
Unfortunately, even if I had any clothes from the 80's, they sure the hell wouldn't fit me anymore!
I did save tons of my pins from the 80's.
(my TwiH00rs will notice I AM wearing my Edward necklace - couldn't go completely Twi-free!)
The Police, Wham, Duran Duran, Wang Chung, The Clash, Sex Pistols
I was asked by a few people if my pins were original.
Ummmm......HELL YEAH!
I saved those babies!  So glad I did!

If you are, ummmmm......more "mature" like my sis and I, then you probably remember seeing the first Footloose at the show back in 1984.......
and buying the soundtrack album (and it was record folks!)
I loved the first Footloose, so I wasn't sure what to expect with this new movie. I was pleasantly surprised.
First, I love Kevin Bacon.....but the new Ren McCormack (Kenny Wormald) is quite a hottie!

Julianne Hough is a much prettier Ariel. I always hated that stick Lori Singer.
However, Julianne Hough does have a Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana vibe about her.
Maybe it's the country accent.

You will like the rest of the characters.
They really did a great job casting the new movie.
I think my favorite is Miles Teller as Willard.  Had me cracking up!

You will love the "Let's Hear it for the Boy" segment!

I would say that the new Footloose is the perfect balance of being it's own movie, while paying homage to the first movie.  You will appreciate all the little moments or lines that are the same as the first movie, and like the changes that were made as well.  It does take place in the current time - and it works.
We were afraid that it would be them trying to remake it and have it set in the 80's -
but the story translated really well to 2011.

See for yourself......

  Update: Oops!  Forgot the freebies!
A movie program.....
and a poster

On a side note, a few Twi-related things......

First, I found this signed poster hanging on the wall - I assume it is signed by a wolf pack member.
Still, pretty cool!

One more Twi-related thing-
I caught this on the Hollywood Palms sign on the way out last night.
I actually turned my car around and went back to get a pic!
Very cool!
Just wish it were a certain sparkly vampire instead (no offence Alex).
